The following story is very long and contains gifs. Read at your own peril.
upon realizing there’s a black guy amongst their ranks…
her and odin look like they’re doing a ballet routine or something
Lightning doesn’t dance. She merely kills you with a rhythmic grace.
The story has its issues, and the battle system has its more annoying quirks (Why is it game over when the player control character dies? Why not switch to another character for player control like in FF12? GAH), but the music in this game is absolutely beautiful (as are the graphics, but pshhh you knew that).
My favorites are currently “Saber’s Edge,” “Blinded By Light,” “Lightning’s Theme,” “Fang’s Theme,” “This is Your Home,” and “Born Anew.”
So bootiful. <3
This is how you score a fucking video game. <3 Composers know what the fuck they doin.
Ignorance is everywhere. Any topic, no matter how large in scope, no matter how multifaceted, no matter how much potential, can always be looked down upon by a person ignorant of its true depth.
Someone who doesn’t like to read can see books as a chore, and a waste of time. Someone who likes pop can see all other variations of music as hard-to-find and needlessly complicated. In a similar vane, any music that one is not accustomed too can sound like noise—pointless, irritating noise.
Video games get this treatment a lot. I remember reading a review of the Silent Hill film, in which the movie was criticized for being based on a video game, but the composer was praised for writing a decent score instead of relying on the games “beeps and whistles.” Except the film’s music was taken directly from the game, because Silent Hill video games are renowned for their creepy, yet fantastic scores.
I bring this up because I recently received a Play Station 3 as a gift, and have been using it to play the hell out of Final Fantasy 13 (also a gift). I beat the game today (at least the story portion, I didn’t delve much into side quests). There was something truly magical about beating the final boss into submission, and seeing the world saved because of my actions. The beautiful music of the credits against clips drawn from the beginning of the game to the end. It really showcased the journey.
Because that’s what video games are a lot of the time, a journey. True, some games ARE just blood, but a lot of them are story. A lot of them are code built over emotion. People pour their efforts and their money and their excitements and their fears into these cartridges, these disks, these downloads. They are a story, just like any other, they can be full of passion and full of power. You really just have to look beyond the fact that you’re holding a controller, just like you look beyond the fact that you’re staring at a screen during a good film.
I bought God of War III yesterday, and that story is nothing if not brutal, but it’s still a story. And I will treasure it, and I will listen to it, while I can.
Also, shallow side note, I totally went underwear shopping. I kinda forgot how comfy new boxer briefs can be. :] Almost as good as going with out. ;] God I’m a slut.
Such a quaint note to end this post on, but here it goes.
Everything has a story, and NEVER disregard something just because you believe it to be simple. You never know, sometimes the shallowest puddle can surprise you.
This Christmas, I’m really narrowing down my list of wants. Mainly because having a trailing list of demands makes me feel like a kid, and also because I’m a lot more conscious of how much things cost (and how much my mom and her husband work to acquire such costs, especially in this economy), and I’ve realized a very nice logic chain.
The less I ask for, the more likely I am to obtain the things I truly want.
i.e. when you mix stuff you really want with stuff you kinda want, the result is that the chances of receiving the things you really want as a gift drops. Significantly.
This year I am asking for one very large present, and ‘accessories’ to go with it. The present: PS3. The accessories: God of War 3, Final Fantasy XIII, Infamous, Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time, Borderlands, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Heavy Rain, and Dragon Age: Origins. Also, No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle and Mario Galaxy 2 for the Wii.
All of these games are old news. BUT, I missed them because all I own is a PS2 and a Nintendo Wii.
Unfortunately, my 17th birthday is fourteen days after Christmas, and all I want is an iPhone 4 for my birthday. That’s literally it.
If I get these things, I will be completely satisfied as far as technology goes. Like, legit. And lately I feel like I need video games more than anything, as I am handling a lot more stress lately.
